Well I think that is a complicated question. The lower facelift I was taught in the 90s, took about 2 hours under general anesthesia…and when I first started…it took me 3.5. But as I discuss in another thread, practicing anything makes you better and more efficient. So in about 2001 I started doing short scar facelifts in the office. The first 100 were pretty small changes on perfect candidates who needed JUST A LITTLE. After 100, and my nurse and I were just discussing this…some of these perfect ladies, brought in not perfect candidates (for a minilift). And they didn’t want a big lift. SO, after a series of blunt discussions..I did a few. And of course I had to do a little more work to get them some change. And maybe the first couple were some change, but then you start to see that with just a little more numbing and a bit of a larger procedure…you can really do what used to take general anesthesia and a bunch of hours, in 90 minutes with valium.
I do think it really depends on how much the patient needs. How much they actually want. And how experienced the doctor is. For me now….I think for MOST patients, I can deliver nearly the results…and maybe more in some folks…with a short scar facelift and valium more safely than a bigger case under anesthesia.
